TDP forces adjournment in AP Legislative Council

Hyderabad, February 28: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council was adjourned for the day on Monday following demands by Opposition TDP members to discuss alleged irregularities in investments made in the media group owned by former Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Citing media reports and the communication reportedly issued by the I-T department over the matter, the TDP members, led by Opposition leader Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, sought a debate on the issue.

However, minister V Vasant Kumar pointed out that the concerned parties were not present in the House and that it is not the right time to discuss the issue.

As the TDP members continued with their demand, Council Chairman A Chakrapani adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

The TDP members did not relent even after the House reassembled after the break.

Veerabhadra Rao said they do not intend to make any allegation against Jagan but sought to know whether power was misused to favour somebody, who in turn, invested in the media group owned by the Kadapa MP.

Pointing out that there were allegations of corruption and irregularities against TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu too, Vasant Kumar said the I-T department is not in the purview of the state government.

The Council Chairman told the TDP members to raise the issue in a different form which, he said, he will examine.

The TDP members, however, raised slogans demanding that a Joint Legislative Committee be constituted to go into the issue.

Pointing out that the House is not in order, the Chairman adjourned the House for the day.
