Telugu Desam MLA B Durga Prasad on Thursday came down heavily on the state government for diverting the funds allocated for welfare of SC/STs.
Talking to media persons at Telugu Desam Legislature Party Office, he alleged that the government did not change its attitude despite the Central Planning Commission clearly issued directives not to divert SC/ST sub-plan funds and using those for cleaning of Musi river, construction of houses and other development programmes of various departments.
Prasad said that the government has to allocate 16.2 percent of funds to SCs and 6.2 percent of funds for STs for their welfare annually in the budget. He said that a strong law was needed to prevent diversion of SC/ST funds with constitutional status. However, the government has failed to allocate adequate funds for their welfare and resorting to diverting funds, he stated.
Demanding the government to clear fee reimbursement dues of students, he sought the government to intervene in the sanction of loans to SC/STs.
