TDP expresses concern over drying up of Jurala Project

TDP MLA Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy expressed concern over the drying up of Jurala Project.

Talking to reporters at NTR Trust Bhavan on Wednesday, Chandrasekhara Reddy said that the Jurala Project would reach dead storage in the next two to three days. He said the project’s Superintending Engineer has already submitted a report to the State Government in this regard on April 9.

The TDP leader said that over one lakh acres of standing crops, which are at the stage of harvesting, would be lost if water was not released to them immediately. He said that the State Government should get at least four TMC of water on immediate basis from Narayanpur or Karnataka State which would be sufficient for 15 days and to save the crops.

Asking Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to take up the issue on war-footing basis, Chandrasekhara Reddy said that thousands of farmers would be affected if immediate measures were not taken.

Another MLA from Mahabubnagar district P Ramulu asked the Chief Minister to provide immediate relief to the drought-hit farmers of the district. He said that the Chief Minister has visited New Delhi several times to discuss by-elections and other political matters. However, Kiran Kumar Reddy never raised the issue of release of funds for the drought-hit farmers in the State.

He said except for the declaration of over 800 mandals as drought-hit, the government did not take any concrete steps to resolve the problems being faced by the farmers. (INN)
