TDP expects a turnout of one lakh at Rytu Kosam

Guntur, December 29: The Telugu Desam is straining every nerve to make the Rytu Kosam programme being organised by it and its friendly parties at the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Stadium here on December 30 a success in all respects.

TDP state secretary M Subba Rao urged district collector B Ramanjaneyulu to give permission for holding the meeting which will be attended by over one lakh farmers from Guntur, Prakasam, Krishna, East Godavari, West Godavari, Khammam, Warangal, Nalgonda and Nellore districts.

Several issues relating to farmers including crop loss, input subsidy, insurance, rescheduling of loans, interest waiving, supply of seeds and fertilisers will be discussed at Rytu Kosam.

The meeting will also discuss the controversial remarks made by chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy that agriculture was not viable.

Objecting to the remarks, TDP Politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said 70 per cent people were dependent on agriculture and asked him if he would provide alternative employment to farmers if cultivation was not a viable vocation.

Another member of the Politburo, Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, wondered how the government would be able to overcome the shortage of foodgrains if it thought that agriculture was not viable.
