TDP discusses issues to corner govt in Assembly

Hyderabad, July 05: The monsoon session of the state Assembly, scheduled to begin from July 7, will be volatile to say the least if indications are to be taken seriously.

The main opposition Telugu Desam Party will try to corner the government on alleged corruption in the irrigation projects, the alleged inaction of the government in the raising of the height of Almatti Dam, the Babli Project, the recent hike in fuel prices, the auctioning of liquor licences issue and fee reimbursement.

A politburo meeting was held at party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s residence on Sunday to discuss the issues the party will raise during the monsoon session.

Talking to media persons after the politburo meeting, senior leader Nama Nageshwar Rao said that the issues to be raised on the Floor of the House included the “large-scale corruption in the irrigation projects under the Jalayagnam Project, illegal raising of the height of Almatti Dam by the Karnataka government, the illegal construction of check dams under the Babli Project by the Maharashtra government which would lead to the drying up of Sriramsagar project, the recent hike in fuel prices and the spread of belt shops across the state and the fee reimbursement issue.”

Mr Nageshwar Rao also said that the politburo members also appealed to the people of the state to participate in the nationwide bandh called in protest against the hike in fuel prices on Monday.

Explaining the reason why the TDP was joining the bandh, Mr Nageshwar rao said that the hike in fuel prices will further increase the already high prices of essential commodities.

He said that the UPA government has hiked the prices of fuel 14 times since it came to power six years ago.

The TDP leader disclosed that the TDP delegation which had met the Central Water Commission over the Babli project was told that the CWS was helpless.

He said that the CWC had claimed helplessness by saying that the state government had remained inactive while the illegal constructions were taken up and has only woken up now.

Mr Nageshwar Rao said that the coming days would see immense hardships for the people of the state because of this inaction by the state government to protect its rights of water.

Mr Nageshwar Rao said that the politburo also demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the massive corruptions in the various irrigation projects in the state.

He alleged that the Congress is showing great earnestness to take commissions from various projects underway in the state but is not as keen to help students of the state by solving the fee reimbursement issue.
