TDP din for JLC probe rocks Assembly again

Hyderabad, March 18: Allotment of lands to various organisations in the name of Special Economic Zones and to associates of former Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy near the Shamshabad airport and other places in the state by the erstwhile YS Rajasekhara Reddy government rocked the State Assembly for the second day yesterday with continuous slogan-shouting by the Telugu Desam members. They demanded probe by a joint legislative committee (JLC) into the allotments.

After adjourning the House twice from 9.07 am to 10.42 am and again from 10.51 am to 12.43 pm, deputy speaker N Manohar convened an all- party floor leaders’ meeting in his chambers to break the deadlock but could not succeed.

Yesterday, the TDP , holding placards, had stalled the House by repeatedly storming the speaker’s podium forcing the Chair to adjourn the House thrice. They demanded scrapping of all the land allotments made since 2004 and a JLC inquiry.

As soon as the House met at 9 am today, eight Telangana Congress legislators rushed to the well and started raising “Jai Telangana” slogans. They stopped sloganeering and resumed their seats when the TDP members with placards in their hands rushed to the podium.

The deputy speaker started reading out notices for adjournment motions given by the BJP on “neglect of BCs in the budgetary allocation” and by the CPM on government land allotments to private companies in the name of SEZs.

As the TDP members were not in a mood to hear his plea for cooperation, he adjourned the House within minutes of commencement.

Noticing no change in the situation even after the House reassembled at 10.42 am, Manohar reminded the agitating members that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had already assured the House that the government would review all the projects and land allotments. But the TDP members kept on demanding JLC probe into irregularities in land allotments. TDP’s P Kesav criticised the Chair’s decision to move the budgetary demands even when the House was not in the order.

Intervening, minister for legislative affairs D Sridhar Babu asked the TDP members to talk as they liked on the subject outside the Assembly if they wanted to ‘politicise’ the issue. Offended, the TDP members went on a shouting spree. Sensing trouble from TDP, the deputy speaker adjourned the House at 12.45 pm till tomorrow.
