A delegation of Telugu Desam MLAs on Tuesday met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his chambers and appealed him to release water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam to Krishna Delta farmers.
Talking to reporters at Assembly Media point after submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister, TDP MLA Pattipadu Pulla Rao said that Kiran Kumar Reddy has assured the delegation that he would take a decision on the issue within two days after consulting the irrigation engineers. He said that he has informed the Chief Minister that the farmers from Krishna Delta were facing piquant situation due to government’s failure to release water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and crops spread across lakhs of acres were withering causing heavy loss to the farmers.
If the government fails to respond on the issue within next two days, he warned that the TDP would intensify its agitation under the leadership of former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao. He said that the government would be responsible for the dire consequences in this regard. He accused the leaders and ministers from the region of showing interest in protecting their posts rather than working for release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.
If the leaders fail to change their style of functioning, he said that the people and farmers would teach a fitting lesson to them in the next elections.
