Hyderabad, May 27: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Thursday demanded reservation for women, minorities and backward communities in Parliament and state legislatures.
“We shall fight for political reservation to these sections in the legislatures. The Centre should immediately table the Women’s Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha as well,” TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said.
Addressing party’s three-day annual conference ‘Mahanadu’ at Gandipet near here, Naidu alleged that the Congress party, which is ruling the Centre and state, has become synonymous with corruption.
“The UPA government has failed to perform on all fronts, particularly in the last one year. Major scandals are breaking out regularly but the Government has failed to take action even in one case, be it the IPL scandal or the 2G spectrum scam,” Chandrababu said.
It has also failed to crackdown on the mining mafia that was plundering national mineral wealth.
The Centre was misusing the CBI to blackmail political opponents like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Prasad, J Jayalalithaa and Sibu Soren to serve its political interests, he alleged.
Referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent statement that he would make way for anyone to the Prime Minister’s post if the Congress party took a decision to the effect, Naidu said it was nothing but undermining the nation as a whole.
“The UPA-2 has achieved nothing significant to celebrate its first year. The Prime Minister could not even assert his position,” the TDP chief said.
On the affiars in the state he said, “Farmers are suffering as they are unable to get even the minimum support price on their produce. Power woes continue to make life miserable for the people.
“Welfare schemes have been put on the backburner while not a single irrigation project worth the name has been completed though the government claimed to have spent over Rs 50,000 crore on the Jalayagnam programme,” he alleged.
