TDP to continue stir until water is released to Krishna Delta: Naidu

Telugu Desam party president and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N Chandrababu Naidu today said that the TDP would continue its agitation until water is released from the Prakasham barrage to the Krishna Delta for the Khariff crop. Talking to reporters at the Gannavaram Airport, near here, he alleged that the government is not responding while the crop is getting withered and the farmers are incurring huge losses.

He attributed the water crisis in the Krishna delta to the diverting of Krishna water to Edupulapaya in Kadapa district, during the regime of former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekahr Reddy. He alleged that the government is acting in favour of contractors in finalising tenders for the construction of Polavaram project, across the river Godavari. ‘We demanded the government to keep all the documents, pertaining to the construction of Polavaram project, before the Assembly Speaker, but the government did not respond’ he blamed. The former Chief Minister said that the TDP demanded to release a white paper on Jalayagnam scheme, under which various mega irrigation projects worth Rs. One lakh crore, were taken up but the government did not respond. Later, Chandrababu Naidu went to Bhimavaram town in West Godavari district and called on former Minister CHVP Murthy Raju, who has been hospitalized with ill-health. UNI
