The much-talked-about BJP-TDP alliance for the ensuing elections seems to be at a dead end with the both the parties unable to come to a clear cut understanding with regard to the number of Assembly as well as Lok Sabha seats they would share.
While both the parties are keen to strike a deal regarding seat sharing at the same time each party are not willing to come down of their ivory tower. The BJP is insisting for 55 Assembly and 10 MPs seats in the Telangana region, but the TDP is willing to concede only 20 and six seats respectively. Likewise the BJP is demanding 20 Assembly and 8 MPs seats in the Seemandhra region, but the TDP is prepared to part with 13 and five seats respectively.
The central BJP leaders are understood to have given the TDP leadership time till tonight to seal the deal or part ways. These leaders asserted that any delay in coming to an understanding would be detrimental to the interests of both. While on one side the BJP is continuing its dialogue with the TDP leaders at the same time it had also opened a channel for discussions with the TRS. Realising the imperative need for an alliance under the changed political scenario, the BJP seem to be anxious to strike a deal with the TRS in the event it fails to come to a understanding with the TDP.
As a matter of fact, the BJP is also keeping a close watch on the developments with regard to the Congress -TRS dialogue for an alliance. Though the TRS seems to be averse to enter into any understanding with the Congress, the latter despite its dislike for the former seemed to be trying to sort out the issue due to political compulsions.
Realising that the Congress-TRS alliance was not moving forward, the BJP wants to grab an opportunity to have an understanding with the pink party if it fails to strike a deal with the yellow brigade. In fact, some senior TRS leaders are camping in New Delhi clandestinely meeting top brass of the BJP like Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaietly.
Though all the four major parties are busy trying to make overtures to attract one another for seat sharing relationship, a clear picture would emerge in a couple of days as time is running short what with the election notification being issued today. (NSS)
