TDP accuses State, Centre of ignoring farmers’ welfare

Telugu Desam Party MLA Jaipal Yadav on Saturday came down heavily on the State and Central Governments for their failure to rescue farmers by implementing the anti-farmers’ policies.

Talking to media persons at Telugu Desam Legislature Party Office, Jaipal Yadav slammed the Centre for not taking any steps for the implementation of recommendations of Swaminathan Committee for the benefit of farmers. Though the Committee submitted its recommendations long back, the government has not taken any steps to discuss them in the Parliament over their implementation, he stated.

Even in the State, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has no time to discuss the Mohan Kanda Committee recommendations on farmers’ welfare, he alleged. Stating that nearly 6,000 farmers have ended their lives since 2004 in the State, he blamed that the Congress party own moral responsibility for the suicides. He said about 83,55,267 acres in the State in 875 mandals were affected due to drought.

Stating that 52,37,960 farmers were sanctioned Rs 1,816 crore input subsidy by the Centre, he said however, the State Government has failed to disburse the input subsidy to the farmers through banks. Still the government has to open 16 lakh bank accounts for the farmers to disburse the input subsidy, he said.

Jaipal Yadav appealed to Agriculture Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana to focus his attention on redressing farmers’ woes and take steps for their welfare. With the approach of Khariff season, he appealed to the government to take steps for supply of seeds, fertilizers and supply of regular power for tilling operations.

The TDP MLA also appealed to the Chief Minister to coordinate with officials concerned and Minister in this regard. (INN)
