TDP 10% reservation to Muslims and Sub-plan for OBCs

Telugu Desam Party has demanded that censes of the BC population be immediately taken up and a separate OBC sub-plan also be created. In a statement here on Sunday, party’s Politburo member Yanamala Rama Krishnudu said that
there was need for enhancing the reservations for the BCs from 27 per cent to 52 percent as per the Mandal Commission Report. He said that if necessary, the Constitution should be amended to change the rule that reservations should not exceed 50 percent. He also demanded that Muslims must be provided 10 percent reservations as per the recommendations of the Ranganatha Mishra Commission Recommendations.

Rama Krishnudu has said that the Congress has been doing injustice to the BCs whenever it came to power and charged the party of being totally responsible for the backwardness of the BCs. He said that the government had chose to ignore the recommendation for higher reservations for the BCs as they constituted 52 per cent of the populations and also the demands of the BC leaders for taking up the census in 2011. Added to this negligence, he said now it became clear through the affidavit filed by the Centre in the Supreme Court that it was in fact trying to reduce the BC reservation from the present 27 per cent to 22.5 per cent. He said it should be construed that the YSR Congress party was also against the BCs as it had not talked about the issue so far. (NSS)
