Hyderabad: Telangana Prajaswamika Vedika (Telangana Democratic Front) here on Thursday announced it would organize a dharna at Indira Park on May 8 from 10 am to 5 pm demanding that the State and Union governments bring those responsible for suicide of Hyderabad Central University Dalit research scholar Rohit Vemula to book.
Speaking to mediapersons here, the TDF leaders Sambasiva Rao, Narayana Rao, Chikkudu Prabhakar and others alleged that deceased research scholar Rohit Vemula was constrained to commit suicide by hanging in a University hostel on January 17 as he was unable to withstand mental torture caused by the upper caste forces. They also alleged that University vice-chancellor Appa Rao had ex-communicated some 500 Dalit students of University of Hyderabad at the behest of the communal forces like ABVP, RSS and caste monsters.
Reminding that Rohit Vemula, one of the 500 victims of communal forces, wrote a letter to Vice Chancellor Appa Rao on December 18 last year about the practice of untouchability in the university and insults to Dalit students, they said the VC failed to take action against the culprits. (NSS)
