TD in total disarray in Telangana

Hyderabad, August 03: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Telangana is in a total disarray and the fear about their future is writ large on faces of the leaders from the region.

With complete rout in the byelections, several TDP MLAs from the region were apprehensive about their political future in a party, whose political philosophy on Telangana is hardly believed by the people.

Though the party leadership harps on the fact that it submitted a letter to the Pranab Mukherjee Committee in favour of Telangana and it was not in a position to prevent the ruling Congress from bifurcating the state, the people of the region doubted the credentials of the TDP in the byelections.

Though, the TDP leadership felt that the ’emotions’ of the people were limited to this election and the situation would change in the next election, several leaders were doubtful of their political career.

If the same tempo continues in 2014 general elections too, the chances of TDP would be very bleak, senior leaders opine.

If the impact of the byelections spreads to other segments of the region, there is every danger of most of the present MLAs getting defeated in the elections.

Asked about their future, some MLAs did not want to comment on this. However, no leader is ready to take on party chief Chandrababu Naidu on this.

Meanwhile, at a press briefing today Naidu said: ‘Party leaders will discuss the issue in a couple of days.”

TDP leadership is attributing the TRS’ victory to ‘sympathy factor’ and not to Telangana sentiment. In all probability, TDP will continue its present stand till December 31.
