TD targets mantri for corruption

Hyderabad, May 11: The Telugu Desam has stepped up its attack on “corrupt” ministers and those “misusing power” in the Rosaiah government.

The party’s politburo member, Mr K. Yerrannaidu, accused the revenue minister, Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao, of misusing his office to get roads sanctioned near his house as well as a quarry owned by his son in Srikakulam under the NREGS.

“There must be a probe,” Mr Yerrannaidu said. The TD leader also insisted that an all-party delegation go to Srikakulam. The government sanctioned Rs 8.5 lakh for the road near the minister’s Arunodaya Colony residence in Singapuram and Rs 44.25 lakh for another road, from Gummapadu to Ashokam, leading to the quarry.

“There are only a few houses in the layout where the minister stays. And in the area where the quarry is situated, only 10 families live. How can you sanction roads in these places?” he asked. Mr Yerrannaidu described Mr Rao’s letter insisting on a vigilance inquiry to the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, as a “drama”. “He is actually trying to forestall action from the Congress High Command. Mr Dharmana knows fully well that Mr Rosaiah wouldn’t protect him if the High Command takes action,” Mr Yerrannaidu said.

“The zilla parishad is responsible for identifying and sanctioning a road project. But it must take into account such things as how many people live in the locality where the road will be constructed. The area with higher population must get a priority,” he said. He further alleged that 40 hectares of forest land was allotted to his son, Mr Dharmana Rama Mohan Naidu, “flouting all rules”.

The TD leader also demanded a probe into the purchase of a disputed property by the minister in Srikakulam town for Rs 20 crore and allotment of 40 hectares to his son.
