TD asks Centre to release Rs 12,250 cr

Vijayawada, October 26: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today demanded the Union Government to treat Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Rs 1,000 crore advance package as an additional amount without linking it to its share and release Rs 12,250 crore for the flood affected areas in the State.

Speaking to mediapersons here today after launching the kits distribution programme for the flood-affected people in Krishna district at the Kesineni Bhavan, TDP senior leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu flayed the State Government for failing to take up relief and rehabilitation measures immediately after the flood havoc to bring back normalcy in the affected areas. He lambasted the Union Government for delaying the release of even the Rs 1,000 crore announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his State visit two weeks ago.

He demanded the Rosaiah Government to bring pressure on the Union Government to get Rs 12,250 crore sanctioned to the State. Senior leader Umareddy Venkateswarulu accused the Congress workers of showing discrimination while extending assistance to the flood ravaged people. Politburo member N Harikrishna said that the TDP alone was working relentlessly for the welfare of the people and appreciated the TDP activists for collecting flood relief and providing assistance under the banner of NTR Trust.

Later, on behalf of TDP Krishna district, about Rs 20,000 kits comprising rice, blanket, saree, utensil and other essential commodities were distributed in the flood affected areas of Vijayawada city. The TD leaders said that another 20,000 kits would be distributed in rural areas of Krishna district. Senior leader Lal Jan Pasha, Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana, Krishna district TDP convener Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, TDP MLAs and party senior leaders took part in the programme.
