“A long struggle for liberation from exploitation, discrimination and subjugation has come to an end with Rajya Sabha passing the AP Reorganization bill leading to creation of Telangana as the 29th State of Indian Union. The six-decade-long hegemony of Seemandhra rule took its toll in terms of loss of jobs, diversion of Telangana resources and threatened the very identity of a society. This day will go down in history as a significant day of Telangana as the unfinished agenda of first SRC came to a logical and natural end”.
In a statement here on Friday, Telangana Co-ordination Committee chairman Prof. A. Gopala Kishan, general secretary T. Vivek and treasurer A. Rajendar Babu stated that the struggle for statehood was articulated peacefully within the constitutional framework despite the pent up feelings since 1969 agitation which was suppressed. The participation of the people in this phase of agitation was voluntary, overwhelming and total. The passage of bill, therefore, is a vindication of Telangana people’s belief in democratic values and a culmination of democratic aspiration of the people of Telangana.
Now that the Bill has been passed by the Rajya Sabha, the TCC urges the President to give his assent to the Bill and notify the appointed date at the earliest. Further , the TCC believes that the division of Andhra Pradesh does not mean division among Telugu speaking people and therefore would appeal to all to live in harmony and co-exist in peace and prosperity.
On the occasion, the TCC thanks its illustrious advisors such as P.M. Bhargava (Padma Vibhushan), Justice Sudarshan Reddy, Chukka Ramaiah, Narendra Luther, H. Rajendra Prasad, Dr Raja Reddy, Dr A. Ranga Rao and many others for their unstinted support, guidance and co-operation to the cause of Telangana.
The TCC now turns its attention on the re-building of Telangana and shall strive to ensure that the fruits of statehood are fully realized with emphasis on equality and justice. Work in that direction alone would be a fitting tribute to the martyrdom of all those who gave away their lives to the cause Telangana. (NSS)
