TC leaders demand deployment of paramilitary forces

Siliguri, September 01: The Congress and Trinamool Congress (TC) leaders today demanded that the local administration deploy the paramilitary forces to hold route marches to ensure peace and put an end to the alleged ‘political hooliganism’ as the city goes for corporation election on September 13.

The Darjeeling district TC president Gautam Deb along with Congress leaders led a delegation to the SDO, Siliguri, R K Shaini and alleged that the left parties, CPI(M) in particular had created a reign of terror in different wards and the opposition was not not being allowed to campaign in favour of their candidates.

The Congress-Trinamool Congress alliance contesting all 47 seats in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) had already filed 20 FIRs to the local police stations against the marxists but no no action had yet been taken, Deb alleged.

Trinamool Congress is contesting in 24 seats while the Congress is fighting in 23 seats.
