Taylor, Williamson run riot as Kiwis set England 399 as target

Contrasting performance from Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson helped New Zealand post an imposing 399-run target for England in the second ODI of the five-match series at the Oval on Friday.

Opting to bat first, Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum and opener Martin Guptill provided the initial thrust before the former was dismissed after a brisk 39 off 22 balls.

While Guptill made 50 before his removal, Williamson found an able ally in Taylor as the duo shared a 121-run partnership for the third wicket.

Williamson (93) fell short of mere seven runs for his century as he fell prey to Stokes. However, Taylor displayed his batting prowess as he remained unbeaten on 119, his 13th ODI century. The right-hander hit ten boundaries and four sixes to justify his free-wheeling style.

Also helping the Kiwi cause were Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi, who smashed a quick-fire 32 and 33 respectively to help their side post a daunting target for the hosts.

Stokes was the pick of the bowlers for England as he scalped two wickets while conceding 66 runs.

England lead the five-match series 1-0 after registering a record 210-run win over the tourists on Tuesday at Edgbaston. (ANI)
