Mumbai, June 23: Taxi fare was increased by Rs 2 in Mumbai after a hike in auto rickshaw fares.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Transport Authority (MMRTA) in Mumbai on Wednesday.
“The base fare has been increased from the present Rs 14 to Rs 16,” Mumbai Taximen Union president A L Quadros, who was present in the meeting, said.
“For every subsequent kilometer, the fare will increase from Rs 9 to Rs 10,” he added.
Quadros said the fares will come into effect from the midnight of June 27.
Meanwhile, government officials said MMRTA has approved the proposal to hike the basic fare of autorickshaws from Rs 9 to Rs 11 and Rs 5 to Rs 6.5 for every subsequent kilometer.
