Tatas’ aerospace project foundation stone laid by KCR

After becaming India’s 29th State on June 2, Telangana got its first big-ticket investment.

Today, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao laid the foundation stone for aerospace project being set up by the Tata Group and RUAG Aviation of Switzerland to manufacture fuselages and wings for the new generation Dornier 228 aircraft.

This is expected to later grown-up into a bigger facility for manufacturing the full Dornier aircraft being used by the Indian armed forces.

The aircraft is re-launched with new engine and fully digital cockpit by RUAG. “This facility will be the backbone of the new generation aircraft,” Martin Buhlmann, vice-president, RUAG, said.

This is Tata Advanced Systems’, the Tata Group company which forefronts the company’s interests in global aerospace, fourth project in this sector in Hyderabad.

It has a joint venture with helicopter maker Sikorsky here, which has until now delivered 70 Sikorsky s-92 copter cabins.

It has one more joint venture with Lockheed Martin for making empennage and centre wing boxes for C-130 J aircraft.
