Tata Motors’ March sales up 35% to 69,440 units

Mumbai: Tata Motors on Sunday posted a 35 per cent increase in their March sales to 69,440 units, as compared to the sale of 51,309 units in the same month last year.

In a statement here, the company said its cumulative domestic sales for the just ended 2017-18 fiscal were up 23 per cent at 5,86,639 units, as compared to 4,78,362 vehicles sold in 2016-17.

“In March 2018, Tata Motors registered a growth of 35 per cent at 69,440 units as against 51,309 units over last year due to the continued strong sales performance of its commercial and passenger vehicles business in the domestic market,” it said.

Domestic sales of commercial vehicles in March grew 37 per cent to 49,174 units, over 35,876 units sold in the corresponding month of last year.

“This growth was on the back of the government’s push towards infrastructure development, restriction on overloading, road construction and mining activities along with increasing demand from e-commerce and FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) applications,” the statement said.

Tata Motors passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market in March grew 31 per cent to 20,266 units on the back of increasing demand for the Tiago and Tigor models, along with Nexon and Hexa gaining traction in the steadily growing UV segment, it added.

According to the company, the order in which the various segments contributed to the March sales growth is: intermediate and light commercial vehicles (97 per cent), small commercial vehicle cargo and pickups (52 per cent), passenger vehicles (31 per cent) and middle and heavy commercial vehicles (21 per cent).
