Task force formed to combat piracy of films, videos

New Delhi, December 22: With the film industry facing the menace of piracy since quite some time, Government today formed a task force to recommend measures to combat the infringement on copyrights of films, videos and cable within six months.

Formed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the task force would hold consultations with state governments as well as stakeholders before finalising their recommendations.

The group will then submit its report within a period of six months i.e., before June 18, 2010, to the government.

Chaired by special secretary in the I&B ministry, Uday Kumar Verma, the group will have eminent filmmaker Yash Chopra, Manmohan Shetty (President of the Film and Television Producers’ Guild of India), Jawahar Goel (President, Indian Broadcasting Federation), and Prashant Pandey (Member, Association of Radio Operators of India) as members.
