Tank bund road to be closed for traffic

Traffic is set to curb for at least 15 days as the HMWS&SB is set to block the arterial Tank Bund Road for laying a pipeline near Saidaniamma’s tomb.

“Though we have not decided the exact date, we need to dig up the road, which will require atleast 15 days. During that period, traffic will have to be diverted,” said a HMWS&SB official.

Once the pipeline is laid, untreated sewerage water from Kukatpally and Balanagar area will be released into the Kalasiguda nala instead of Husainsagar lake from July this year.

As Chief Minister K Chandrsekhar Rao is keen on cleaning the polluted lake, senior HMWS&SB officials are supervising the works and making serious efforts to the see that works are completed by July this year.

Currently, the polluted water from Kukatpally nala is released into the lake, while the water from three other nalas is treated at STPs near NTR Marg Road and Munister’s Road.

HMWS&SB Director (Projects), M Konda Reddy, said that laying of Trunk Sewer lines will cost the civic body Rs 58.96 crore. They said that Rs 35 crore is being utilised from ODA loan assistance of JICA for Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment area Improvement Project.
