Tension prevailed in Tandur Mandal of Ranga Reddy district after unknown miscreants desecrated a Ganesh Idol kept in a function hall. According to the sources, members of the minority community have organized a marriage function in MPT functional Hall at Tandur last night where an Idol kept in the premises was partially damaged.
The security guard of the function hall noticed the damage caused to the idol and alerted the owner. The news of damage spread in the Mandal like a wild fire and the members of the majority community throng function hall in large number and created a ruckus.
The function organizer agreed to compensate the damage caused to the Idol, demanding action against those who desecrated the Idol, activists of Hindu fundamentalist organization staged a protest infront of Tandur police station late in the night.
Later this morning a bandh call was also given against the incident and a Rasta roko protest was also held at Indira Chowk. Subsequently protests were also organized at Vinayak Chowk, Shantimahal, the situation suddenly went out of control when the members of both the community started pelting stones against each other.
The rioters damaged many vehicles and pelted stones on commercial establishments. To disperse the mob Tandur police used forced and lathicharged the violent rioters. Keeping in view of the tense situation the police have promulgated prohibitory orders of 144 section. The Superintendent of Police Ranga Reddy rural Rajkumari also reached the riot effected area and supervised the situation.
