Hyderabad, August 16: The main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh received a boost with Former State Minister Tammineni Sitaram formally joining the party today after quitting the fledgling Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) of Actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi.
Mr Sitaram joined the TDP close on the heels of another Senior PRP Leader and Former State Home Minister T Devender Goud returning to the parent party.
Admitting Mr Sitaram into the party fold after he publicly expressed regret for quitting the TDP prior to the simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu contended it was the TDP alone which could dislodge the ”anti-people” and ”corrupt” Congress Government in the State.
He challenged the Congress to admit into the ruling party only those TDP legislators who were ready to resign as MLAs and contest afresh in a byelection on a Congress ticket.
Mr Naidu found fault with the Congress Government for its alleged failure to curb price rise. Opposing regulations clamped on media on coverage of Assembly proceedings, Mr Naidu asserted his party would agitate till the curbs were removed.
