Chennai: An intermediate student from Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruvathavur near Melur in from Madurai District was attacked by two fellow students inside the school’s premises today in the morning.
The victim student sustained injuries on his head and both of his hands was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital.
According to the sources, the victim was attacked around 10 am when he was waiting inside the school premises when the two other students arrived on a bike and attacked him with a machete and fled the crime scene.
The victim’s mother, a Sri Lankan refugee said, “It looks like they wanted to kill him. They tried to attack his neck and head. He incurred injuries in his hands when he tried to block them.”
The boy was attending his school from his grand mother’s house located in Sri Lankan’s refugee camp in Thiruthavur. The victim’s father who is a daily wager while his mother, a Sri Lankan refugee, a younger sister all reside in Vaikom Periyar Nagar.
According to the initial reports, the two attackers are residents of Sunnamboor village and are yet to be arrested.
Meanwhile, D. Maruthupandian, Dean of the GRH, had paid a visit to the injured boy. He said “The boy is conscious and talking. We are awaiting the results of CT scan to determine the severity of the head injury. The boy has also incurred fractures and deep cut injuries on his palms,” NDTV reported.
