Tamil Nadu: Annamalai University student attacked for refusing to accept marriage proposal

Cuddalore: Refusing to agree to a marriage proposal, a student of Annamalai University in Chidambaram was attacked on-campus with a knife by a youth on Monday.

The girl student identified as Lavanya studying M.Sc horticulture sustained several injuries on her neck in the attack and is now undergoing treatment at the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital, Hindu reports.

The attacker identified as Naveen Kumar, 27, works in a private company Chennai took the aggressive move after she turned him down. Hailing from Natrampalli in Vellore district, they both knew each other and were friends before the incident.

The accused was however caught during the act and handed over to the Police. He had consumed adulterated cool drink before assaulting Lavanya when she was walking from Thamarai Girls hostel around 11.a.m.

The locals thrashed the accused after they heard Lavanya screaming. He is now admitted to Chidambaram Government General Hospital.

Further investigations into the case are on.
