Taliban taking revenge on Pak army: Defence Expert

New Delhi: Defence Expert P.K. Sehgal on Tuesday condemned the attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and said the Taliban which is taking revenge on the Pakistan Army is making desperate attempts to overthrow the government in Islamabad.

“This university, which houses over 3,000 students, would be from families of security forces. So, it’s a way of taking revenge against the Pakistan Army. Pakistani itself has been harbouring this status. The greatest threat to Pakistan is from its own home grown elements, which they call soldiers of Islam,” Sehgal told ANI.

“Pakistan Army has been carrying out operation in the Fatah area for the last one and one and a half years, primarily against the Pakistan Taliban. This is the so-called bad Taliban and not the good Taliban. The TTP is being cautioning them to lay off. They initially carried out an attack against the school children in Peshawar, where 132 children were killed, who belonged to the security forces,” he added.

Sehgal further said that the Taliban is attempting to grab government’s assets of nuclear and chemical weapons, and added that they would create mayhem for the nation if they get hold of the same.

The Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack on the university.

Two attackers have been killed in the terrorist attack, according to Peshawar DIG Saeed Wazir.

Rescue officials say some 50 students have been rescued from the premises following the attack by armed gunmen, who stormed the university and opened indiscriminate fire.

As per reports, four terrorists have been killed in the attack so far. (ANI)
