Taliban militants claim they have downed a US military helicopter in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nuristan, killing at least 10 people.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said on Tuesday that the militant group was able to bring down a US chopper as it was flying over the volatile region where the Taliban have a large presence.
The United States military officials in Kabul have not yet commented on the claim.
The incident marks the latest in a string of attacks on helicopters belonging to the US-led forces in Afghanistan.
The US-led NATO troops employed a larger number of helicopters and drones and resorted to aerial operations in a bid to escape the large casualties caused by Taliban’s roadside bombs and ambushes on military convoys.
