Taliban kills 6 US-led troops in Afghanistan

Marjah, February 19: US-led forces have lost six more soldiers during an ant-Taliban operation in the militants-infested southern Afghanistan.

On Friday, a spokesman for International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed the total number of NATO solders killed on Thursday was six.

Sergeant Jeff Loftin says the soldiers were slain in Helmand province, where US and British forces have lost several grounds to the Taliban militants.

The alliance says the soldiers were killed in separate incidents by mines and gunfire.

The coalition forces did not disclose the nationalities of slain soldiers or exact location of the incidents.

However, British authorities in London say Britain had lost two of its soldiers during the day.

The fatalities come as the US-led forces have launched Operation Moshtarak in southern Helmand province , which is said to be aimed at uprooting the Taliban militants there.

The US-led offensive backed by the Afghan troops has entered its seventh day.

Thousands of US soldiers and Afghan soldiers have faced strong resistance from militants in Marjah district, one of the Taliban’s strongholds.

Thousands of Afghan civilians have been killed since the 2001invasion of Afghanistan, which was launched to allegedly destroy the militancy in the country.

Analysts, however, say that the conflict seems unending and unwinnable.
