Taliban fighters on Thursday bombed four schools in the restive Mohmand tribal region of Pakistan, the latest in a series of attacks that has destroyed hundreds of state-run educational institutions.
No one was injured in the blasts that destroyed the schools at about 2:30 am, officials said.
The Taliban have destroyed over 100 schools in Mohmand Agency, one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal districts.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan is opposed to co-education and the curriculum of state-run schools, which it has described as “un-Islamic”.
The militants have destroyed hundreds of schools, mostly for girls, in northwest Pakistan over the past five years.
