Srinagar, May 4 (ANI): In a bid to help youth showcase their talent and positively channelise their energies, police organised a music competition in Srinagar. State Minister of Higher Education of Kashmir, Muhammad Akbar Lone, praised the state police for organising the event. “This is a very good way to provide a platform to the state”s youth, to nurture their talent which should definitely be encouraged. I would like to congratulate the Jammu and Kashmir police for organising such an event,” said Lone. The event turned out to be a major success with scores of youth including girls participating in the talent show ”Chhoona Hai Aasman” (Touch the Sky) from across the state. The talent hunt was hosted by the zonal police headquarter Kashmir in collaboration with College of Education, in which 22 contestants battled for junior and senior titles in solo singing category. A panel of eminent regional musicians like Ejaz Rah, Muneer Mir and Altaf Saahil judged the musical event that mesmerized locals and officials alike. Locals were also seen tapping their feet, as participants mesmerized the audience with a cocktail of classical and Bollywood numbers. “There are many benefits of this event as it gives us an opportunity to make a name for ourselves and the world to see our talent. Such events are beneficial not just for the youth but also for the girls of the state who are confined to their houses. Therefore it is a good way to promote talent and boost our confidence that we are worth something,” said Kulsum Jan, a participant. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been organizing the talent hunt for the last three years. In order to promote and harness the talented winners, efforts are also made to impart special training to those who secure merit in the grand finale so that they can further make a mark from themselves in the field of music. The state government from time to time initiates schemes to facilitate gainful employment to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir by providing jobs and organizing artistic events to channelise their energies into creative pursuits.
