Talasani for street survey to expand tax net

Small businesses now can’t escape tax net as Commercial Taxes department is gearing up for conducting street surveys to register on the spot to fill the State coffers.

This was stated by Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav after presenting awards to 68 officials of his department for better performance. Speaking later, he advocated street surveys to offer spontaneous registration of businesses which are not under the department’s purview and directed to get revenues supposed to get. He directed them to net those other multiple varieties of businesses avoiding tax payment. “We need to prevent such small and other businessmen from escaping tax net and improve revenues by making spontaneous registrations, Srinivas Yadav stated.

The minister directed the officials to make use of technology for audit and scientific way of approach, plug leakages through frequent inspections of transport companies, godowns, improve surveillance at integrated check-posts, collect properly the entertainment tax, professional tax, VAT and luxury tax from hotels and cross checking of data got from other departments besides resolving court cases.

The minister also directed the officials to conduct raids on businessmen dealing with sensitive commodities and plug tax leakage and evasion. The officials were asked to show commitment to collect 100 percent taxes to collect Rs 43,115 crore for 2016-17 financial year which is 39 per cent more than that of 2015-16 that was ought to collect Rs 33,965 crore.
