The new generation may hardly know that Husain Sagar named after Hazrat Husain Shah Vali (RA) is the oldest lake of Hyderabad. Ibrahim Qutub shah had built the lake under the supervision of his son-in-law Hazrat Husain Shah Vali. Though it was named Ibrahim Sagar after Ibrahim Qutub Shah but it became famous as Husain Sagar.
The other famous lakes like Mansaheb talab, Saroornagar Talab, Mir Aalam Talab, Nawab Saheb Kunta, Afzal Sagar Talab, Shah Hatim Talab, besides Moosi River, Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar have fallen prey to the lust of land grabbers.
Lakes of the city have shrunk but the lust of land grabbers increases day by day. Very few persons might be aware of the fact that, with the formation of Hyderabad, Qutub Shahi rulers had built several lakes surrounding the city; one among them being Patencheru. Patencheru means lake of the city. Osman Sagar which used to quench the thirst of residents of Hyderabad is also shrinking. Amda Sagar Talab has also lost its existence. Errakunta Lake is also almost wiped out.
