Take strong action against rowdy students: Bengal governor

Kolkata, January 12: Against the backdrop of various incidents of principals and teachers being assaulted by students at various educational institutions across the state, West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan Wednesday said strong action should be taken against such “rowdy students”.

“We need to take very action against such kind of incidents. Teachers, principals are very important people in our life. Strong action should be taken against rowdy students,” said Narayanan while talking to reporters at the sidelines of Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival 2012.

In the last two weeks, there have been various incidents of students affiliated to either ruling Trinamool Congress or the Communist Party of India-Marxist assaulting principal and teachers of various educational institutions across the state.

Asked should the state government act impartially while dealing with incidents of campus violence, Narayanan said: “There is no question of being partial or impartial. Strong action should be taken against such incidents.”

The Mamata Banerjee-led government has drawn severe criticism from all quarters of the society after it took a dual approach in dealing with accused affiliated to various political outfits.
