Allahabad, April 14: A sitting judge of Allahabad High Court Justice Sudhir Agarwal, on Wednesday, sent a letter to Chief Justice FI Rebello discribing the letter should be treated as a PIL and urged him to take appropriate steps to provide life saving hepatitis vaccine (hepatitis B antigen) as it was not available in the entire State of Uttar Pradesh.
In the letter Justice Agarwal said he should be treated as “a common man” and that urgent steps should be taken to protect lives of people from this dreaded disease.
The judge said it was also a matter of concern that the Hepatitis vaccine was not being marketed in the State and the Health departments was completely passive in this aspect. “The State Government had made no attempt to obtain the said vaccine medicine and make it available at at least the Government-run hospitals,” Justice Agarwal said.
Further the Judge wrote: “No attempt was made by the authorities concerned to get it replaced from the concerned supplier or repaired.”
The judge has requested the Chief Justice for ensuring availability of the vaccine by April 15.
