Take steps to end crime against women in Andhra: BJP

Hyderabad, September 19: Expressing concern over rising crimes against women in Andhra Pradesh, BJP today demanded that the state government take concrete measures to put an end to such incidents.

“The attack on a girl by her jilted lover at Rajahmundry yesterday is shocking. The girl’s parents were killed on the spot and she is battling for life. This is terrible,” senior BJP leader Ch Vidyasagar Rao told reporters.

“This is only the latest in a series of such attacks in the state. Official statistics show that the highest number of crime against women are taking place in Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

He suggested that the government appoint a women protection forum in every district by nominating officials and others as its members.

A youth allegedly stabbed the parents of a girl to death and injured her grievously for spurning his love at Rajahmundry in East Godavari district yesterday.

Meanwhile, Rao also demanded that the state government officially celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day, the day on which the princely state of Hyderabad was merged with the Indian Union, as all political parties are making the demand now.

“Till 1998, only BJP was celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day. Now all parties are celebrating it. It is high time the state government organised the function officially,” he said.

Asked about media reports that he is tipped to take over as party president in the state, Rao said the party’s central leadership would take a decision on the issue.
