New Delhi [India]: The season of colours is here. But as an effect, it makes your skin and hair dull and dry.
Hence, Dr Jamuna Pai, celebrity cosmetologist at Blush Clinic, Mumbai has suggested some pre-Holi care for skin and hair.
– Apply oil liberally all over your body and hair prior to exposure to the colours. You can use almond or coconut oil as they are thick in texture and will protect your skin from the strong colors and will lessen the damage.
– Since hair also can be damaged with holi colours, you should apply good amount of oil on the roots of your hair as well. Make a small bun of your hair once you are done with oiling. For an additional protection, you can cover your hair with a dupatta/bandana.
– Apply good amount of sunscreen on all exposed areas of your body, as it will also act as a barrier and protect your skin from the damage caused by the colours.
– Wear clothes that cover maximum part of your body, apply a layer of a good quality cream or oil to your skin.
– Apply thick coat of nail paint on your nails, both of fingers as well as toes to protect them too.
Here’s how one can recover skin and hair that get damaged after playing with colours.
Hair:
– Use lots of oil on hair & wash hair with warm water, apply a mild shampoo immediately and enough amount of a good conditioner & rinse properly. Repeat the procedure if required, and apply serum over the hair length to protect it from the exposure to pollution. This will keep the cuticles protected and prevent it from loosing lusture, softness and shine.
Skin:
– After celebrating Holi, it is important to remove colour and replenish and rejuvenate the skin by using a paste of soyabean flour or besan with milk. A mixture of sea salt, glycerine and few drops of aroma oil have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effect and can take care of the bad effects of chemical colours. To clean use warm water and moisturizing soap to scrub off the colours. Using a cream cleanser or baby oil, gently massage off the left over colour.
– Cleaning the skin finally of all the colours is the most important aspect. Do not rub the skin vigorously with soaps, etc. to wipe the face of gulal but instead, opt for a cleanser. Follow this up with lots of moisturiser, especially one that is meant for sensitive skin. Liberal use of cold cream or a moisturiser is good for the skin.
Must have products for precaution and care (both skin and hair).
– Coconut or Olive oil for body and hair to protect it from the harshness of the colours.
– The colour can be removed naturally with soyabean flour or besan with milk.
– Do not use a harsh soap or scrub to remove the colours, instead use warm water with baby oil or soft cleanser.
