Taj Mahal is a Shiva temple originally named ‘Tejo Mahalaya’, says BJP lawmaker

Lucknow: After Taj Mahal termed ‘a blot’ to Indian culture by Sangeet Som, BJP parliamentarian Vinay Katiyar called Taj Mahal a Shiva temple that was known as ‘Tejo Mahalaya’.

Katiyar on Wednesday told CNN-News18, a temple was destroyed by Shah Jahan to build the Taj Mahal. The Rajya Sabha member asserted that the Taj Mahal was built on the ruins of an ancient Shiva temple.

“Taj Mahal is a Hindu temple. There are many symbols of Hindu gods and goddesses in Taj. It was known as Tejo Mahal and water used to drip from its ceiling…,”Mr Katiyar said.

He also said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath “should go into the Taj Mahal and see the Hindu signs inside it”.

The 17th-century Mughal-built monument is under severe controversy after it was left out in the tourism booklet released by Uttar Pradesh government.

The great piece of architecture is one of the wonders on Earth, which makes it among a favourite tourist destination in India.
