Condemning the reported demolition of places of worship at old Secretariat complex in Hyderabad, members of different organizations addressed a press conference in Hyderabad on Monday.
They demanded that the Telangana government reconstruct the two mosques at the same place with immediate effect. If that doesn’t happen, they will wage legal battle and approach the High Court and also knock the doors of the Supreme Court. The representatives of the organizations also showed several documents to put their points on the presence of the religious structures inside the Secretariat building complex.
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had expressed regret over the damage caused to places of worship in the Secretariat premises during demolition works and said new ones would be built in a more spacious area.
The state government began the demolition of the secretariat building complex on July 7 to pave the way for construction of a new secretariat. The move came days after the Telangana High Court dismissed a bunch of PILs challenging the state’s decision to construct a new Secretariat complex.
The Telangana government on Monday said 90 per cent of the demolition works are over. It is estimated that there would be 4500 Truck-loads of debris. So far 2000 truckloads of debris were removed.
