T-TDP to approach Supreme Court over irrigation projects

Telangana TDP leaders on Friday said that they would approach the Supreme Court against the illegal construction of irrigation projects by the Karnataka and Maharashtra Governments.

Addressing a press conference here, TDP Legislature Party leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao, MLAs P Ramulu and Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy and Mahila Morcha president B. Shobha Rani said that the Telangana Government has failed to keep a check on construction of illegal dams by the Karnataka and Maharashtra. They said that the ongoing projects would cause immense damage to the farmers of Telangana in future. Stating that a similar mistake made in the past has proved too costly, they said Maharashtra Government was allowed by the previous regime to draw 2 TMC of water for drinking purposes from Babli dam. However, the Maharashtra Government diverted the entire water. Similarly, the drying up of Sriram Sagar Project has affected irrigation on about 18 lakh acres of land.

The TDP leaders said that they would approach the Supreme Court against all the illegal dams. They also announced that the TDP would launch statewide massive agitation on the issues like redesigning of Pranahita Chevella project and cheap liquor. (INN)
