Hyderabad, June 12:Opining that a separate Telangana state could not be achieved without the agitation being intensified further, former minister K Prabhakar Reddy on Sunday said that the differences and lack of commitment on the issue by the political parties is the main stumbling block in the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the office of Telangana Union of Working Journalists at AP Farmers Forum, HACA Bhavan at Nampally, the former home and finance minister told media persons that concerted efforts are needed to sort out the differences between the various Telangana protagonists so that the aim of a separate state is achieved.
He advocated a two-pronged approach, an intensified agitation on the ground on one hand while the political parties keep sustained pressure on the state and Central governments so that Telangana could be achieved sooner than later.
Mr Prabhakar Reddy pointed out that though the Telangana issue was a long-pending problem, the coming together of journalists from the region under the banner of Telangana Union of Working Journalists, would go a long way to keep the pressure on the government sustained on the issue.
The former minister also appealed to both the Centre and state government to make concerted efforts towards the formation of Telangana state. “They should not resort to delaying tactics on the issue,” Mr Prabhakar Rao stated.
Telangana Union of Working Journalists president Chandar Srivastav alias Hussain Ali Khan pointed out that though while over 300 senior most journalists hail from the region, the scribes from Telangana have been meted out injustice in all fields.
Union working president Shoukat Ali Sufi was also present.
Later, the journalists went to Martyrs Memorial at the Gun Park in a procession and paid rich tributes to departed souls who laid down their lives for the cause of Telangana.(INN)
