MPs of the Telangana region are fearing if there would be mid-term polls. Discussions are on in political circles that the UPA government would not last ery long. AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi has even hinted about snap-polls. BJP is also preparing itself for polls.
As national politics is in a quandary, politicians are a worried lot. They are unable to predict what would happen the next minute. Several MPs fear that there would be mid-term polls. MPs of the Telangana region are more worried about the prospect. Particularly Congress MPs are worried about their future. They fear that they would stand no chance of winning if the party does not take a decision on the Telangana issue at least now. They fear that they would not be able to even campaign, if elections were called without announcement on the ‘T’ issue.
Congress leaders have been telling that only they were capable of fighting for ‘T’ and achieving it. Now what should we tell the people, is the worry of the ‘T’ leaders. Though Telangana Congress leaders had fought for the state along with the TRS and the ‘T’ JAC and were arrested on several occasions, they are now not sure if they would be able to face the people if snap polls were ordered without first deciding the Telangana issue.
Though the Congress leadership has not responded to the demand of Telangana, leaders of the region have earned the goodwill of the people by sincerely fighting for the cause. Still, they are unsure that they would be able to win the election, promising that Telangana would be a reality after the elections.
The recent cabinet expansion has caused worry to the strong protagonists of Telangana in the Congress. Party leadership has denied cabinet berth to the more vocal MPs of the Telangana region and had chosen those who were submissive to the High Command. Now fears are being expressed that the more vocal MPs might not get party tickets in the ensuing elections.
Such hardliners may look for alternative avenues which include joining the TRS of the YSR Congress. They may hop into these parties in the last minute if denied party tickets. Several MPs are already in touch with these parties, say reports.
