T-leader continues fast in hospital

Hyderabad, November 08: Congress MLA and former minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy today continued his indefinite fast in support of separate Telangana at the government hospital here where he was admitted yesterday. Reddy began his fast at his native Nalgonda on November 1 and was forcibly admitted to the state-run Nizam’s INstitute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here yesterday.

Former state Congress president and MLC D Srinivas, senior party leader G Venkataswamy, Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) convener M Kodandaram and several other Telangana leaders called on Venkata Reddy today. “His fast has come to the notice of the party high command. We hope a decision (on the Telangana issue) would come soon,” Srinivas told reporters.

The JAC Convener demanded that the Centre make a statement on the Telangana issue soon and end Reddy’s fast. Protesting against the way Venkata Reddy was brought to Hyderabad by police, Congress Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao said the way he was arrested and lifted from Nalgonda was not expected from this government.

Some of the Telangana Congress MPs and others had a meeting at the residence of state minister K Jana Reddy and they had planned to call for a bandh tomorrow though MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy later said the bandh call has been withdrawn. The Telangana Congress MPs and other leaders have appealed to Venkata Reddy to end his fast but he was adamant, Sukhender Reddy said.
