T-Govt. getting ready to impose heavy taxes

Hyderabad: Govt. of Telangana is planning to increase taxes in order to increase its income. Govt. has decided to increase commercial taxes, excise, stamps and registration fees. It is expected to raise Rs. 3000 crore. Govt. is actively considering enhancing taxes of the commercial institution which do not fall under the GST. Govt. may also enhance taxes on the services provide through Mee Seva. Dept. of Transport has also been instructed to take steps of enhancing the fees for offering its services.

It may be mentioned that a few days back, transport Dept. has already increased the registration and license fees of the vehicles. It now proposes to levy tax on other services. Commercial Tax Dept. earns the largest income for the State Treasury. It earned Rs. 43,115 crore during 2016-17. A plan has already been prepared by Commercial Tax Dept. to levy tax on restaurants, function halls etc. It may also include luxury hotels.

It is expected that with the implementation of GST, Govt. of Telangana would get Rs. 1000 crore additional income. Govt. is planning to collect Rs. 500 crore from the establishments which do not fall under GST. Govt. has planned to collect Rs. 14,500 thousand crore through Excise Dept. but it is planning to collect Rs. 18000 crore. The Dept. of Municipal Administration has been instructed to levy cess on services provided on streetlight and drainage system.
