T Cong leaders to wait and watch

New Delhi, October 02: The Congress leaders from the Telangana region have decided to adopt wait and watch policy over the issue of statehood for the region.

Congress ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs had a long meeting in the national capital at Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao’s residence to discuss the future course of action in view of Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pranab Mukherjee’s statements saying that more time was required to solve the Telangana issue. The Congress leaders, who had earlier announced that they would resign from the party and posts if the Congress high command fails to announce separate Telangana by September 30, changed their stand.

Talking to reporters, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said that the Telangana leaders have decided to wait for some more time before taking a decision on future course of action. He said that the Centre has already started the process to resolve the Telangana issue which was evident from the fact that Ghulam Nabi Azad has submitted his report to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He said that the Centre would need some more time to come out with an announcement on Telangana.

Warangal MP K Rajaiah accused the State Government of using coercive methods to end the on-going general strike for Telangana. He demanded that the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy stop trying to sabotage the Telangana agitation. He also demanded that all Telangana employees who went on strike be paid salaries without any deductions, especially in view of the festivals. He also hoped that the Centre would soon come out with an announcement on Telangana.
