The Telangana BJP today demanded that the Krishna River Water Management Board re-consider its decision on stoppage of power generation in the Srisailam project.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy said the Board should re-consider its decision as standing crops in Telangana were withering. Criticizing the TRS government for tardy functioning, Kishan Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao lacked foresight and kept quiet for five months without taking any concrete measure to tide over power crisis in the State though the BJP urged him to go to Chattisgarh to buy power and urge Chattisgarh CM Raman Singh to help the State.
Holding the Chief Minister responsible for farmers’ suicides, Kishan Reddy said the former cannot escape from his responsibility by saying that he had already announced that there would be scarcity of power for three years. The people of Telangana have given mandate for TRS and it was responsibility of the State government to resolve the problems. Taking a dig at KCR, he said it was the BJP-ruled Chattisgarh State which came forward to help Telangana State to overcome from power shortage.
Lamenting that KCR was leveling baseless allegations against the Modi government, the Telangana BJP chief suggested to him to explore the possibilities of purchasing power from Maharashtra State where also BJP formed the government. “Instead of leveling allegations, Chief Minister KCR should concentrate on preventing pilferage of power and transmission losses”, Reddy said, adding that every unit of power should be utilised judiciously. He also asked KCR to give details of power usage and revenue losses in the Old city of Hyderabad.
Citing an example, Kishan Reddy said the TSTRANSCO was losing Rs 30 to 40 crore revenue from the old city due to power pilferage. The government, instead of taking action against sincere officers of Vigilance department, it should take steps to prevent pilferage of power and transmission losses.
He also announced that his party would launch membership drive from November 20 to January, 2015 in the State. Before commencement of membership drive, the party would organise workshops at various levels right from the State to mandal levels from November 9 to 20. (NSS)
