T Bandh Total In Districts; Partial In City

Telangana bandh called by Telangana Political JAC and backed by the ruling TRS and other Telangana groups today evoked total response in the districts while it was partial in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The Telangana groups on Friday called for bandh in in Telangana in protest against the passage of Polavaram Bill in the Lok Sabha transferring 211 villages under seven mandals in Khammam district to the residual Andhra Pradesh State to facilitate construction of Polavaram project.

In the early hours, the CPI(M) members staged a dharna at the MGBS and did not allow even a single bus to come out of the bus stand. With this, 250 bus services were cancelled and some 500 long-route buses forced to wait in the bust stand. The police arrested the protestors and whisked them away.

In Nizamabad, the bandh was successful and peaceful. The CPI(ML) New Democracy, CPI, CPM, TRS and Congress activists staged dharnas at all RTC bus depots in the district and stopped buses from coming out of the depots. Therefore, some 650 buses at six depots remained stationery. The same scene was seen at Sangareddy depot in Medak district.

The intensity of the bandh was high in Khammam district. The buses went off the road, cinema theatres, shops, business establishes, schools and colleges remained shut. The bandh paralyzed the public life in the district. Most of educational institutions in the capital city and other important towns in the State remained closed.

According to early reports, government bus services in most parts of Telangana State were stationary. (NSS)
