Nalgonda, September 29: Infrastructure Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy was beaten up by Telangana activists when he went to express solidarity with the Telangana Teachers’ Joint Action Committee protest in the district headquarters on Wednesday.
The Telangana activists first prevented the Minister from talking to the JAC leaders. However, when he reached the protest venue, he was beaten up. Some activists also hurled slippers at him. The situation turned worse when his supporters clashed with the Telangana activists. Police had a tough time in controlling the situation which became normal only after he left the venue.
Later, talking to reporters Venkat Reddy announced that he would tender his resignation to minister’s post on October 1 if the Centre failsto announce a decision on Telangana by September 30. He said that he would standby to the promise of resignation and there was no chance of him reversing his decision. He said that he would submit his resignation directly to Gover5nor E S L Narasimhan on October 1 and sit in for hunger strike along with one lakh Telangana activists on October 2 in the State capital.
The Minister said that MPs – Manda Jagannadham and Komatireddy Rajagopal have already expressed their solidarity to his deeksha. He said that the MPs have appealed to him to restrict the deeksha for one day only. However, he was yet to decide whether to confine the hunger strike for one day or make it indefinite.
